Pada tanggal 04-08 April 2012, Joburg akan menjadi tuan rumah ajang Mr Gay 2012. Seluruh Gay dari penjuru dunia akan berkompetisi memperebutkan gelar Mr Gay 2012. Selama empat hari peserta akan di berikan pembekalan dan juga berbagai aktifitas. Dan kemudian acara puncak akan berlangsung pada hari minggu jam 8 malam, dan 8 april 2012, di The Lyric Theatre di Gold Reef City.
Mr Gay Dunia adalah sebuah kontes tahunan untuk lelaki gay, yang nantinya diharapkan menjadi duta gay untuk perjuangan hak-hak lgbt dibelahan dunia. Kompetisi ini merupakan salah satu kontes gay paling dipublikasikan di dunia.
Mr Gay Dunia 2011 adalah Francois Nel dari Pretoria, Afrika Selatan menang dua tahun berturut. Tahun lalu Mr gay diadakan di Manila pada tanggal 13 Maret 2011.
Pemenang sebelumnya dari Afrija Selatan 2010 adalah Charl van den Berg, menang di Oslo, Norwegia. Pada tahun 2009, pemenangnya adalah Max Krzyzanowski dari Irlandia.

From April 4 to 8, Joburg will be over-run by hunks from across the world taking part in different events over four days, culminating in the Grand Finale on Sunday, 8 April 2012 at 8 pm at The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City.
Mr Gay World is an annual contest for gay men, seeking to establish ambassadors for LGBTI and human rights, with winners of national contests competing as delegates in a variety of categories including leadership, sports, swimwear modelling and knowledge of LGBTI world affairs. This competition is one of the most publicised gay contests in the world.
The current Mr Gay World 2011 titleholder is Francois Nel from Pretoria, South Africa with South Africa winning a record second time in Manila on March 13, 2011. The previous South African winner in 2010 was Charl van den Berg, winning in Oslo, Norway. In 2009, the winner was Max Krzyzanowski from Ireland who won in Whistler, Canada.
“We are so excited to take our Big Five continents to Africa to experience the ‘Rainbow Nation’ for our fourth annual competition,” said President of MGW, Eric Butter.
“The producers of Mr. Gay South Africa have produced excellent quality events and we are so looking forward to the production and unique African experience they are planning for the international delegation,” he added.
